The government wants to prohibit collectors from demanding debts from veterans

Collectors will be prohibited from interacting with war veterans and their family members, just as it is already provided for military personnel. About this it is said in draft law No. 13033 submitted by the government to the Verkhovna Rada.

The explanatory note notes that the current law “On consumer lending” already provides for a certain level of protection for servicemen of the Armed Forces and other military formations. In particular, creditors and collection companies are required not to contact such consumers if they have self-reported that they belong to this category.

However, war veterans are currently not included in this list, so the draft law proposes to expand the list of protected persons, providing them with additional social protection in the field of credit obligations.

Such changes will allow veterans to avoid unwanted contacts with collectors and creditors, which will help reduce the risk of psycho-emotional stress related to financial issues. The government emphasizes that this initiative will be an important social guarantee that will contribute to the adaptation and recovery of veterans during their return to peaceful life.
