The head of the Ministry of Education found a way to solve the issue of the shortage of teachers in schools

After the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, there is an acute shortage of teachers of mathematics, English, and computer science.

There is currently a significant shortage of teachers in Ukraine, and this problem can be solved by attracting teachers from among internally displaced persons (IDPs). This was announced by the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, on August 1. informs Ukrinform.

“The shortage of teachers in Ukraine is colossal, especially in subjects such as mathematics, English, computer science, etc. We can help solve this problem by integrating teachers from among internally displaced persons. We are currently developing a special resource for IDP teachers with the employment service, as there is regions that are ready to provide them with housing and pay a higher salary so that they come to work”, – noted Lisovyi.

He also emphasized that there is a shortage of teachers in the Mykolaiv region, but there is an active integration of teachers who were relocated from the Donetsk and Kherson regions.

“This is the right policy because teachers should work in the regions where they live and not lose their professional skills”, – emphasized Lisovyi.

Last school year, about 600,000 schoolchildren in Ukraine received their education online. By the end of 2024, half of them – 300,000 children – are planned to return to full-time education. This will be possible thanks to the modernization of the educational infrastructure, ensuring security and improving the conditions of learning in schools.

Lisovyi emphasized that the integration of IDPs into the educational process is one of the key aspects for overcoming the personnel shortage and ensuring the stable functioning of schools. The Ministry continues to work on creating favorable conditions for attracting teachers to different regions of the country where their help is most needed.
