The Shevchenkiv District Court of Kyiv decided to give Nestor Shufrych, who is suspected of treason, the opportunity to fulfill his duties as a people’s deputy, responding to his request. About this reported People’s Deputy from “European Solidarity” Oleksiy Honcharenko.
The court did not allow Shufrych to physically participate in the sessions of the parliament, but ordered him to ensure the right to exercise his parliamentary powers while in pre-trial detention. The decision was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada and is not subject to appeal.
“According to the regulations, a people’s deputy can vote on draft laws only in the session hall. That is, Shufrych will not be able to vote. But theoretically, he can participate online, for example, in Committee meetings. Whether to submit draft laws and resolutions through assistants.” Honcharenko explained.
We will remind that Shufrych was informed about the suspicion of treason. The People’s Deputy faces up to 15 years in prison. On September 15, 2023, the court arrested Shufrych without the right to release on bail until November 13, after which the people’s deputy continued the preventive measure in the form of detention several times.
