The IMF is preparing to resume cooperation with Russia: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed serious concern over the intentions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to resume cooperation with Russia and send the mission to Moscow. In the official statement The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that such a step actually legitimizes the regime, which violated the foundations of the UN Charter and unleashed the biggest war of aggression in Europe in recent decades.
“It would be absurd for the main financial institution of the UN to legitimize the Russian regime, which actually destroyed the very foundations of the UN Charter, starting the biggest war of aggression in Europe since the Second World War and committing terrible atrocities against the Ukrainian people.”, said the message.
The Ukrainian agency called on the IMF to refrain from such steps, stressing the need for further isolation of Russia on the international stage as long as it continues its aggression against Ukraine.
According to Reuters, the IMF plans to start the mission on September 16 in an online format, and later a delegation of the fund will visit Moscow. This will be the IMF’s first visit to Russia since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which is an alarming signal for Ukrainian diplomacy.
At the same time, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, announced that the IMF continues its mission in Ukraine, in particular, within the framework of the fifth revision of the EFF program, which will allow the country to attract 1.1 billion dollars already this fall.
