The Main Intelligence Directorate eliminated the chief of staff of the Russian battalion “Storm-Ossetia” in the Zaporizhzhia region

On January 5, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine) reported about a successful operation carried out at the end of December. On December 29, 2024, on the Vasylivka-Tokmak highway in the Zaporizhia region, fighters of the FPV-unit of active actions of the Kraken Ministry of Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated the chief of staff of the battalion of the Russian occupation forces “Storm-Ossetia” Sergey “Kama” Melnikov and his driver.

This assault unit was part of the 429th motorized rifle regiment of the Russian Armed Forces, and its actions were coordinated in the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhia region. According to the press service of the GUR, the operation was carefully planned on the basis of operational information received by intelligence officers of the Department of Active Actions. They determined the route and schedule of Melnikov’s movement in advance, which allowed aerial scouts to prepare an FPV ambush.

At first, the drone operators forced the driver of the UAZ “Patriot” car in which Melnikov was traveling to change the trajectory. According to GUR, the drone skilfully scared the driver, which caused a sharp maneuver, as a result of which the car flew into a ditch. At that moment, the military scouts delivered a precise strike with a kamikaze drone, which hit the windshield of the vehicle directly.

“The horrified Russian driver abruptly changed the trajectory, the car flew into a ditch, and then the military scouts hit the frontal with a kamikaze drone. Both occupiers were destroyed.” – the message says.
