The Ministry of Defense achieved reimbursement of over 23 million hryvnias in unjustified bonuses

Ministry of Defense conducted audit in one of the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to its results, the unjustified payment of bonuses to military personnel in the amount of UAH 31.69 million was established. UAH 23 million has already been reimbursed to the state. Work is ongoing to compensate the remaining amount.
Specialists of the Department of Internal Audit of the Ministry of Defense established that in the specified military unit, servicemen were unjustifiably included in the orders for various additional payments of financial support.
The largest share of violations — for a total amount of UAH 30.54 million — consisted of groundless additional rewards in the amount of up to UAH 100,000, which should be paid only in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Defense order No. 260.
Director of the Department of Internal Audit of the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Oleksandr Tytkovskyi, emphasized that no legal grounds for the payment of bonuses were found. That is, the servicemen who received them did not take a real part in combat operations or the implementation of measures necessary to ensure the defense of Ukraine on the line of combat with the enemy.
“Decent financial compensation is one of the motivating factors for the military. However, illegal awarding of bonuses not only causes losses to the state, but also becomes a demotivating factor for other military personnel. Therefore, our auditors will continue to focus on identifying such violations.” Oleksandr Tytkovskyi said.
He added that all collected materials related to the illegal calculation of premiums have been handed over to the prosecutor’s office.
