The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine allocated a third of the funds from the defense budget for the development of high-tech weapons. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Defense.
“The Ministry of Defense allocated a third of the defense budget to technological weapons. Defense procurement today is not only about meeting the needs of the Armed Forces. It is also a powerful driver of the development of the Ukrainian technological sector, especially in the areas of unmanned aerial vehicles, EW, and missile technologies.” – said the director of the Department of Procurement Policy of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Hleb Kanevskyi.
The team of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine held another working meeting with representatives of companies specializing in the production of drones and other high-tech weapons. This event is part of a long-term dialogue with Ukrainian arms manufacturers.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the experience of business participation in defense procurement and search for ways to improve the system, in particular in the areas of increasing transparency, competitiveness and speed of procedures. As the Director of the Department noted, on the instructions of the Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov, the task of the procurement vertical is to create a system that encourages innovation and attracts new participants.
During the meeting, the participants were presented with an analysis of the structure of the Defense Procurement Agency’s counterparties and provided with up-to-date data on the level of competition. One of the key areas for 2025 is the unification of technical requirements for drones. This will allow to create uniform standards for product evaluation, optimize procurement processes and speed up decision-making. Also, unification will facilitate the scaling of proven suppliers.
The participants also discussed the introduction of new formats of cooperation with counterparties, including the purchase of not only individual products, but also complex solutions that include personnel training, technical support, maintenance and modernization. The importance of attracting additional funding – both domestic and international – for the sustainable development of the technological sector of the defense industry was separately emphasized.
The Ministry of Defense plans to continue a series of such meetings with manufacturers of other technological areas in order to consistently improve the procurement policy in accordance with the current challenges of war and the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
