Ukraine faced large-scale power outages and a deficit for two years
Today, May 16, from midnight, hourly electricity blackout schedules have been implemented in all regions of Ukraine due to a significant deficit in the energy system. “Ukrenergo” reported that there is a significant shortage of electricity for most of the day, so the dispatch center has informed Oblenergo of consumption limits for each region.
About this reported “Ukrenergo” press service.
“For most of the day, there is a significant shortage of electricity in the power system. The “Ukrenergo” dispatch center has provided Oblenergo with consumption limits for each region. Today, May 16, from 00:00, hourly shutdown schedules are in effect in all regions of Ukraine“, the statement says.
Currently, 446 settlements remain without electricity due to hostilities and technical problems. The largest number of power outages was recorded in Donetsk, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv and Kherson regions.
To solve the problem of electricity shortage, “Ukrenergo” had to use emergency aid from neighboring countries, such as Romania, Slovakia and Poland, as well as import electricity from Hungary and Moldova.
Experts warn that electricity shortages may become a new reality for Ukraine within the next two years.
“In general, my forecast is that we will live with a shortage of electricity for the next two years. And this will simply be a normal state for the Ukrainian energy system”, – said Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Research Center.
Advisor to the Prime Minister Yuriy Boyko confirmed that the current restrictions on the supply of electricity may last until August-September, and in the winter period the deficit will be felt even at high temperatures.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported, that the energy situation in the country is extremely difficult.
“Having lost 8 GW of capacity, they are currently forced to cover the deficit through imports and emergency aid from Western partners. We are working to minimize risks before the start of the next heating season. Repairs will be carried out in parallel with the development of decentralized generation. – he wrote.
