The National Bank weakens the hryvnia: the euro is approaching a record 44 hryvnias

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) set the official exchange rate of the hryvnia on May 29 at the level of UAH 40.3958 per dollar and UAH 43.9708 per euro. Both figures are the lowest in history.

Increased activity was also observed on the interbank foreign exchange market, with the volume of trades reaching a record level in 2024 – 488 million dollars. A significant part of the dollars was sold by the National Bank, probably to finance defense needs.

This further drop in the hryvnia exchange rate raises concerns about the stability of the national currency and the economy as a whole. Experts attribute the weakening of the hryvnia to a number of factors, including the war, the budget deficit and rising inflation.
