Due to the actions of the Russian Federation, the ZNPP is again under the threat of a blackout

As a result of the Russian shelling, one of the two power lines of the occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was cut off, leaving it connected to the Ukrainian power system through only one line. About this reported Ministry of Energy
As noted by the ministry, in the event of the loss of the last power line, the station will be in a complete blackout, which is a serious violation of the conditions of safe operation and creates a threat of an emergency situation.
“For the second time this week, there is a real threat of a blackout at the Zaporizhzhia NPP due to Russian shelling. Today, a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will take place in Vienna, and we insist on the immediate full implementation of the resolution on returning the occupied station to the control of Ukraine. Only in this way can the safe operation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP be guaranteed.”, – stated the Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko.
Power engineers are ready to restore power to the station as soon as the security situation allows it. This is not the first incident: on November 16, Zaporizhzhya NPP also lost connection to one of the power lines as a result of Russian attacks.
ZAEP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, has been under the control of the Russian military since March 4, 2022. Russia uses the site of the station to host military equipment and ammunition and periodically fires at the station. As a result, power transmission lines are damaged, which leads to the shutdown of power units. At the same time, the Russians blame the Ukrainian side for all attacks.
On October 5, 2022, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, signed a decree on the “transfer” of the ZNPP to the federal ownership of Russia, creating a company to manage it. “Energoatom” called these actions “worthless” and emphasized that for the Armed Forces, no decisions of the Russian Federation about “joining” the station or territories are of any importance.
