The number of bankrupt citizens in Ukraine has increased dramatically

Over the past four months, the number of bankrupt citizens in Ukraine has almost doubled.

For data Opendatabot, based on information from the Supreme Court, currently has 651 personal bankruptcy cases pending, which is more than the number of cases for all of last year, when 575 cases were pending.

The main part of citizens who apply for recognition of bankruptcy are people aged 25 to 45, which make up 64.1% of the total number. Approximately 28.7% are over 45 years old. Among bankrupts, 51% are women, and 48% are men.

The largest number of bankruptcy cases was registered in Kyiv — 95 cases (15% of the total number). Kyiv region is in second place with 58 cases (9%), and Dnipropetrovsk region is in third place with 53 cases (8%).

Bankruptcy expert Denys Lykhopek explains that the increase in the number of cases is probably related to “delayed demand” and not some sudden factor.

“It should be understood that at the beginning of a full-scale war, people did not want to deal with debts – the priority was issues of survival. At the same time, a moratorium on the collection of most of the debts in executive proceedings was in effect for more than a year. Even after this moratorium was canceled, private and public executors reminded debtors of their obligations. This may have been the driving force that prompted people to seek solutions in insolvency proceedings.”, — notes Lyhopok.
