Police representatives will take part in the selection of cannabis samples

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a resolution that regulates the procedure for the selection of samples of hemp plants for laboratory tests to determine the level of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is a narcotic substance. About this informs Ministry of Health.

This resolution applies to enterprises engaged in the cultivation of both medical and industrial hemp. The applicant who grows hemp must submit a corresponding application to the State Service for Medicinal Products and the National Police. Both services ensure the presence of their representatives during sampling within 10 calendar days after the application.

Based on the results of the sample selection, an act is drawn up, and the samples themselves are carefully packed. Each packed sample is accompanied by a tag with information about the plant, its variety, place and time of selection, as well as a list of persons present.

The ordinance also details the medical cannabis sampling process, specifying the selection steps, number of plants, packaging requirements, and information to be entered into an electronic record-keeping system that will be operational in the fall of 2024.

All collected samples must be packed, sealed and transported in conditions that guarantee their integrity for further analysis.

Only state expert institutions have the right to conduct laboratory tests of samples, and they must be performed in accordance with the requirements of the State Pharmacopoeia of Ukraine. The term of research should not exceed five working days.

Enterprises are prohibited from harvesting until the results of the research are received. After receiving the results of laboratory tests, business entities are obliged to notify the National Police about them within five working days.
