The number of foreign students in Ukraine decreased 10 times during the war

During the years of the full-scale war, the number of foreign students in Ukrainian institutions of higher education decreased tenfold. If there were about 100,000 of them before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, now there are about 10,000. About this reported adviser to the President of Ukraine on issues of the Fund of the President of Ukraine for the support of education, science and sports Olha Budnyk during the conference “Education of a new Ukraine”.

“When we talk about more opportunities, the task of the President’s Fund is to create opportunities here that will force not only Ukrainian students to choose Ukrainian universities, but also to bring foreign students back here. Before the war, there were more than 100,000 of them, today – about 10,000.” Budnyk said.

She emphasized that one of the tasks of the state is to create conditions that will allow foreign students to return to Ukraine. At the beginning of the large-scale invasion in 2022, more than 2.5 thousand students from different countries of the world found themselves in the zone of active hostilities.

We will remind you that on May 27, former Minister of Economy, ex-adviser of the Office of the President and current president of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) Tymofiy Mylovanov announced his intention to acquire the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” (NaUKMA). According to him, KSE plans to submit a corresponding request to the Ministry of Education and Science. At the same time, the MES stated that the possibility of privatizing NaUKMA is not being considered.
