In a week, new rules for paying sick leave will come into force in Ukraine

On April 4, 2025, Law No. 4158-IX “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Regarding Mandatory State Social Insurance” will enter into force in Ukraine on April 4, 2025. This document provides for new rules regarding the payment of sick leaves. About this reported Pension Fund of Ukraine.

Persons for whom a single social contribution has been paid are entitled to paid sick leave. This applies not only to employees, but also to individual entrepreneurs who work under an employment contract. Payments in case of temporary incapacity for work, as well as in connection with pregnancy and childbirth, will be made both at the main place of work or activity, and at the places of part-time work.

“The specified norm will be applied to insurance cases that will occur from April 4, 2025. At the same time, the changes do not provide for restrictions on the number of part-time jobs of insured persons, for which they have the right to receive insurance benefits“, the PFU explained.

Particular attention is paid to situations where a person has lost his ability to work as a result of an accident at work. If the insured person works at several jobs, the first five days of sick leave must be paid by the employer of the enterprise where the insured event occurred.

“From the sixth day of temporary incapacity for work, the financing of sick leave is carried out by the Pension Fund of Ukraine”, — specified in the PFU.

If the employee has only one place of work, his employer is obliged to pay 17 days of sick leave at his own expense in case of an accident at work or an occupational disease. The amount of payments is 100% of the average salary for the corresponding number of days — regardless of the employee’s insurance experience or the number of jobs.
