In Ukraine, the number of people with gaming addiction tripled during the year. As of now, 12,807 Ukrainians are registered in the Register of Ludomaniacs. About this informs “opendatab”.
Over the past year, 9,389 new entries were made to the register, while 1,496 people were excluded due to the expiry of the limitation period. In total, since the registry was created, 14,979 citizens have entered it, of which 2,172 have already been excluded.
It is indicated that 99% of all appeals are voluntary. People themselves apply for self-restriction in order to temporarily prohibit themselves from visiting gambling establishments and participating in gambling. The duration of the restriction can be from six months to three years. Only 1% of persons were entered into the register by decision of the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL). There were 169 such cases for the entire time, the vast majority — during the past year.
On average, about 780 people were added to the registry every month in 2024 — almost three times more than in 2023, when the figure was about 280. The most applications for self-restriction were received in April – 1,041, and the least in June – 524. For January and February 2025, 1,719 people have already been added to the register, which is an average of 860 per month – 10% more than last year.
“Opendatabot” points out that there are currently no complete statistics on the real number of people with gambling addiction in Ukraine, because the register does not cover all cases – in particular, participation in the game through online casinos.
