The Brazilian Joao Marinho Neto, who was 112 years and 52 days old at the time of setting the record, was officially recognized as the oldest person on the planet. In accordance withdata Guinness World Records, João’s age was confirmed by specialists from the gerontological group LongeviQuest.
The man was born on October 5, 1912 in the city of Marangupe, in Brazil, in a family of farmers. From an early age, João helped his parents on the farm, and as an adult he inherited the land and continued farming, raising livestock and growing crops.
Joao was married twice. Four children were born in the first marriage, and three in the second. Today, his large family consists of six children, 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The Guinness Book of Records notes that despite numerous challenges, including periods of severe drought, the man always showed hard work and perseverance, providing his family with financial stability.
At the beginning of 2024, Joao was recognized as the oldest living man in Latin America, and now he is officially named the oldest person in the world.
