The President of the European Council invited Zelenskyy to a summit on Ukraine and European defense issues

The President of the European Council, Antonio Kosta, invited the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, to participate in a special meeting of the European Council dedicated to Ukraine and European defense issues. About this it is said in the official letter of invitation to the participants of the summit, published on the website of the European Council.

As Koshta noted, the meeting will begin on March 6 at 12:30 with a traditional exchange of views with the President of the European Parliament. A discussion with Zelenskyi will take place during lunch, after which the participants of the summit will focus on European defense and consider issues related to Ukraine.

Košta explained that the purpose of the summit is to continue “the informal meeting on February 3 with the aim of taking the first decisions in the short term so that Europe becomes more sovereign, more capable and better equipped to deal with immediate and future challenges to its security.”

The President of the European Council emphasized that the EU intends to “assume more responsibility for the security of Europe”, and also noted that there is a “new momentum” that can contribute to the achievement of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace.

“Therefore, it is important for us to exchange questions about how to further support Ukraine and about the principles that must be respected in the future. The EU and its member states are ready to take on more responsibility for the security of Europe. Therefore, we must be ready for the likely European contribution to the security guarantees that will be needed to ensure lasting peace in Ukraine.” Koshta emphasized.
