The reconstruction investment fund does not provide for financing social programs: Shmyhal

The reconstruction investment fund does not provide for the financing of social programs, as it functions as a direct investment fund with a commercial purpose. About this during the hour of questions to the government told Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“The funds that will be accumulated in this fund will be used for investment activities and can be invested both in the extraction and processing of minerals in Ukraine, in the technological development of industrial enterprises of Ukraine. Accordingly, social investments are not foreseen by this fund, because it is a direct investment fund, it operates on a commercial basis with the aim of making a profit.” – explained the Prime Minister.

Shmyhal also added that the fund’s board will make the decision on investment directions. The decisions will be based on the priorities of industrial development and the desire to maximize the profit of the fund for further reinvestment.

We will remind that on April 30, Ukraine and the USA signed an agreement on the creation of a joint reconstruction investment fund, which should attract global investments to the Ukrainian economy. On May 8, the Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 0309 on the ratification of the relevant agreement between the governments of Ukraine and the United States, and on May 12, the document was signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
