The SBI exposed an organized group that stole more than 101 million hryvnias in purchases for the military

SBI investigators reported the suspicion to the officials of the Luhansk Housing and Operation Department, which is now part of the system of logistics forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and their accomplices. They appropriated more than 101 million hryvnias during the purchase of firewood for the needs of the Ukrainian army. About this informs DBR press office.

The illegal scheme was organized by the former head of the Housing and Operation Department (KEV) of Luhansk. For its implementation, he involved two current officials of the unit stationed in Dnipro, a former employee of KEV and a private entrepreneur. They ensured the purchase of fuel wood for the Armed Forces at inflated prices, without holding open tenders and through indirect suppliers.

Purchases were made through individual entrepreneurs, whose accounts were fully controlled by the participants of the scheme. DBR employees identified 35 entrepreneurs involved in this arrangement and recorded 47 cases of wood purchase at an inflated cost. The total losses to the state exceed 101 million hryvnias.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement officers conducted 28 searches, during which documents, computer equipment and mobile phones were seized. Five members of an organized group were notified of suspicion of taking possession of other people’s property by abuse of official position, committed repeatedly, under martial law, as part of an organized group and in particularly large amounts (Part 3 of Article 27, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 5 of Article 191, Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction provides up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. Procedural management is carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.
