The SBI is investigating the beating of a military man at a training ground in the Kirovohrad region

The State Bureau of Investigation initiated criminal proceedings in connection with the beating of a serviceman at a training ground in the Kirovohrad region. This was reported by the spokeswoman of the territorial administration of the DBR in Mykolaiv, Olga Protsenko comments for the Public. The incident occurred on September 17 during fire training.

According to the investigation, the conflict arose between the instructor and the cadet. During the dispute, the instructor, exceeding his official authority, hit a serviceman with the butt of a machine gun, injuring him. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

On September 18, SBI investigators initiated proceedings under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for exceeding authority or official authority by a military official. The sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 8 to 12 years.

A military serviceman’s comment

A serviceman injured in the incident told Suspilno his version of events. The man’s name is Oleksiy, he is 38 years old, he comes from the Mykolaiv region. Before mobilization, he worked as an IT specialist. Oleksiy noted that he has health problems and was deemed partially fit for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but he voluntarily joined the signal regiment.

“In the communications regiment, they agreed to take me into service with my health problems, provided a letter of recommendation for the recruiting and social support center. After that, I voluntarily passed the military medical commission at the Ingul TCC. Then I was sent to the training center of the A1890 military unit . But my commanders and instructors, ignoring the letter of recommendation, tried to force me to go to serve in another military unit.” – said Oleksii.

According to the serviceman, after his refusal, a verbal conflict arose, which turned into physical violence. At the training ground in the Kirovohrad region, he was beaten and tortured, firing from a service weapon, causing serious injuries.

“Most likely, I will no longer be able to perform my military duties due to these injuries”, – added Oleksiy.

The victim is currently being treated at the Kirovohrad Regional Hospital for War Veterans. The medical director of the hospital, Olena Bedenko, noted that detailed information about the serviceman’s state of health will be provided after receiving an official request.

The pre-trial investigation continues, investigators are establishing all the circumstances of the event and the persons involved in the incident.
