The mobilization of “retirees” is ineffective: the Council is preparing to lower the conscription age to 50

Changes to the mobilization age in Ukraine are being discussed in the parliament. Currently, men are called up for military service between the ages of 25 and 60. However, in the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence are considered a proposal to lower the upper limit of the mobilization age to 50 years.

The question of the effectiveness of the use of mobilized servicemen aged 50+ was considered. There is an opinion that using people of this age is ineffective”, – member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Yuriy Zdebskyi.

Zdebsky noted that possible changes to the mobilization age are being actively discussed in the specialized committee. In particular, it examines the idea that men aged 50 to 60 can be more useful for the recovery of the country’s economy than for military service. At the same time, there are currently no plans to lower the mobilization age below 25 in the Verkhovna Rada.

The Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence continues to discuss the optimal age for mobilization. Deputies emphasize that they strive to find a compromise that would satisfy the needs of the Armed Forces and contribute to the recovery of the economy.

Some deputies propose even more radical changes to the mobilization age. In particular, deputy from the “Voice” faction, Roman Lozynsky, believes that mobilization should be carried out from the age of 21.

The final decision on changes to the mobilization age will be made by the Verkhovna Rada after a detailed discussion and consideration of all arguments.
