The second copy of the world’s largest transport aircraft An-225 “Mriya” is 70% ready: Dmitry Antonov

The second copy of the world’s largest transport aircraft An-225 “Mriya” is 70% ready, reported the commander of An-225 and An-124 “Ruslan” aircraft Dmytro Antonov on the air of the TV channel “Kyiv.24”. According to him, the main parts of the plane – the fuselage and the wing – were preserved in excellent condition, which allows the completion of construction. It remains to equip the plane with the latest systems and complete the work.

Antonov said that the fuselage and wing were manufactured back in 1990 as part of plans to create a second copy of the An-225. However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the project was frozen.

“If it were not for the collapse of the Union, we would already have two such aircraft in a few years. This was the plan, but it could not be implemented. All this time we kept the second aircraft in good condition. It is possible to complete the construction, 30% of the work remains to be done: to equip it modern systems”, he noted.

The construction of the new “Mriya” continues, although information about 70 percent readiness appeared a year ago. In November 2023, Antonov also reported that the fuselage and wing were ready.

“It remains to install the equipment: flight control systems, fuel and hydraulic systems. All these systems will be the latest, and we will be able to use them in the future also for Ruslan aircraft, Antonov emphasized in his previous speech.
