The Ukrainian army pushes the Russians out of Vovchansk

German experts report on the successes of the Ukrainian army in advancing in the Kharkiv direction. The armed forces of Ukraine managed to dislodge the Russian troops from almost half of the territory of Vovchansk, which they captured by mid-May.

Julian Röpke, a military observer and open data analysis expert for the German publication BILD, notes that by the middle of last month, Russian troops managed to gain a foothold in the north of Vovchansk. Also, the Russian army captured part of the central districts of the city.

During the last days, the Armed Forces managed to repel the Russians from most of the central quarters of Vovchansk. The Russian army mercilessly bombards the city, gradually razing its streets to the ground, but it is unable to advance further.

“Currently, only about 25% of the territory of the city is under unequivocal Russian control. A week ago it was almost half. It seems that the Ukrainians managed to advance there and push out the Russians. Russian troops are losing positions in Vovchansk and are increasingly resorting to the destruction of the city with the help of MLRS, heavy artillery and planning aerial bombs that are dropped on the city from a distance,” Mr. Röpke comments on the situation.

Despite the fact that the Russians managed to capture part of the village of Staritsa west of Vovchansk, the advance of the Russian army in the remaining directions was stopped.
