The United States allocates $1.5 billion to Ukraine for energy and humanitarian support

During a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the Peace Summit in Switzerland, US Vice President Kamala Harris announced the allocation of more than 1.5 billion dollars to support Ukraine’s energy sector and humanitarian needs.

According to the press service of the White House, the funds will be channeled through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the State Department.

USAID will also provide $500 million in new funding and redirect $324 million of previously announced funds to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, expand electricity production, and attract private sector investment.

Humanitarian aid for millions of Ukrainians

A significant part of the aid will be aimed at providing food, medical services, housing, water, sanitation and hygiene for millions of Ukrainians affected by the war. Support will also be provided in the field of psychological assistance, agriculture and income restoration.

$300 million to support civil security

The US State Department plans to allocate an additional 300 million dollars to support the civil security of Ukraine, in particular to provide border guards and law enforcement officers with the necessary equipment.

The allocated funds are part of a larger package of foreign aid to Ukraine initiated by US President Joe Biden.
