The US called on China to participate in a peace summit on Ukraine

The United States is calling on China to participate in a summit on Ukraine scheduled for this month in Switzerland, a representative of the State Department told reporters on Thursday. Earlier, China stated that it would not take part in the forum, as Russia was not invited to it. More than 100 countries have accepted invitations to a summit to discuss the terms of a peace plan outlined by President Volodymyr Zelensky to end a full-scale invasion by Russia that began in February 2022, Kyiv said. Russia, which closely cooperates with China, was not invited to the meeting, which will be held from June 15 to 16.
Beijing has previously said it will not attend the summit, considering the participation of both warring parties a prerequisite for any meaningful peace conference.
“We certainly encourage China to participate in this summit. They have participated in previous versions of the summit. We found their presence useful. We think their presence would be useful here as well.” – said the representative of the State Department at the briefing.
The representative also said that China should take action against companies that Washington says are helping the Russian defense industrial complex. According to him, it would be “even more useful”.
