The war caused direct losses to Ukraine by $170 billion

As of the end of 2024, the total amount of direct damage suffered by Ukraine’s infrastructure due to a full-scale Russian invasion reached $170 billion. About this informs report by KSE Institute.

The housing sector suffered the greatest losses, the losses of which are estimated at 60 billion dollars. As a result of hostilities, 236,000 residential buildings were destroyed or damaged, including 209,000 private houses, 27,000 apartment buildings, and 600 dormitories.

Transport infrastructure was also significantly affected with losses of 38.5 billion dollars. More than 26,000 km of highways were damaged, causing losses of 28.3 billion dollars. The railway sector lost $4.3 billion, the port infrastructure lost $0.85 billion, and the aviation industry lost $2 billion. In addition, 260 thousand private cars were destroyed or damaged, which is estimated at 2.2 billion dollars.

The energy sector of Ukraine suffered losses of 14.6 billion dollars. The occupiers completely destroyed the Kakhovka and Dniprovska HPPs, Trypilska and Zmiivska TPPs, significantly damaged other generating facilities, high-voltage substations, and oil and gas infrastructure facilities.

The agro-industrial complex lost 10.3 billion dollars. 130 thousand units of agricultural machinery, 4 million tons of granaries and 16 thousand hectares of perennial crops were destroyed. Fighting and fires damaged 298 thousand hectares of forests, which caused another 4.5 billion dollars in damages.

Losses in the field of education reached 7.3 billion dollars – more than 4 thousand educational institutions were destroyed or damaged. In the field of health care, losses amount to 4.3 billion dollars due to damage to 1,554 medical facilities.

The sector of culture, sports and tourism suffered losses of 4 billion dollars. 3,921 cultural objects, 399 religious buildings and 343 sports complexes were destroyed. Telecommunications and digital infrastructure lost 1.2 billion dollars, and in the de-occupied areas the destruction of networks reached 100% in some places.
