AMCU investigates the reasons for the sharp rise in the price of chicken eggs

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has started an investigation into the reasons for the increase in prices for chicken eggs, which has been observed since October 2024. About this reported press service of the department.
The committee sent requests for information to business entities that produce chicken eggs and form primary offers on the market, carry out retail sales of chicken eggs to the public and manufacture compound feed, the cost of which significantly affects the cost of eggs.
AMCU reminded that a similar situation had already arisen before. In October 2022, the committee conducted a study of the reasons for the increase in the price of eggs, when prices for a dozen in retail chains rose sharply to UAH 65-80. At that time, experts analyzed data from all stages of product implementation — from manufacturers to end consumers.
The situation in the market at the end of 2024 has similar signs to the price jump in September-October 2022, the AMCU notes. Currently, the committee continues to investigate the circumstances and analyze information to understand the reasons for the rapid increase in chicken egg prices.
“After receiving answers to the requirements from the market participants and further analysis of all factors affecting the price behavior of companies in each of the links of the goods turnover, final conclusions will be formed regarding the presence or absence of signs of violation of the legislation on the protection of economic competition in the actions of the market participants”, the message says.
