On May 23, US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been reached between Russia and Ukraine regarding a large-scale exchange of prisoners. About this it is said in a post on the Truth Social platform.
Trump became the first Western leader to publicly comment on the swap, which was agreed during talks in Istanbul.
“An agreement on a large-scale prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine has just been finalized. It will enter into force in the near future. Congratulations to both sides on reaching this agreement. Could this be the start of something big?”, – said the US president.
We will remind, on May 22, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting dedicated to the preparation for the exchange, after an agreement was reached in Turkey during the meeting of the delegations of Ukraine and Russia in the “1000 to 1000” format. This agreement was the only practical result of the talks held on May 16 in Istanbul — the first in more than three years.
After the talks in Istanbul, US President Donald Trump said that a peaceful settlement of Russia’s war against Ukraine cannot happen without his meeting with Vladimir Putin.
