Ukrainian delegation in Damascus met with Syria’s new leader
On December 30, a Ukrainian delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiga, held a meeting with the de facto leader of the country, Ahmed al-Sharaa, in Damascus. About this informs Al Arabiya agency.
In addition to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ukrainian delegation also includes the Minister of Agriculture of Ukraine and the authorized representative of the President. The details of the negotiations are currently not disclosed.
This visit takes place against the background of the “Grain from Ukraine” humanitarian initiative, within which Ukraine cooperates with the World Food Program (WFP). As part of the program, Ukraine will soon deliver 500 tons of wheat flour to Syria to support the local population.
Earlier, the Ukrainian side already discussed with the new Syrian government the supply of humanitarian food aid. This direction became part of Ukraine’s broader efforts to support countries affected by conflicts and crises through the use of Ukrainian agricultural resources to strengthen food security.
Ukraine also provided support to the Syrian rebels, in particular in the training of FPV drone operators, which emphasizes the multifaceted nature of Ukrainian cooperation with various sides of the Syrian conflict.
