Trump threatens to take away subsidies from Musk’s companies and return him to South Africa

In the relationship between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, a conflict arose again: the US president threatened the billionaire with the cancellation of state subsidies for his companies and even said that Musk would have to return to South Africa. About this informs NDTV.

The reason for another dispute was Musk’s criticism of Trump’s bill to reduce taxes, increase defense spending and limit social programs.

“If this crazy spending bill is passed, the American Party will be formed the next day. Our country needs an alternative to the one-party system of Democrats and Republicans so that people really have a VOICE.” wrote Mask in X.

In response, Donald Trump noted that Musk has always known about his negative attitude to mandates on electric cars, which oblige manufacturers to produce a certain part of new cars in electric versions. He went on to point out the dependence of Musk’s business on government funding.

“Elon probably receives far more subsidies than anyone in history, and without the subsidies Elon would probably have to shut down and go home to South Africa. No more rocket launches, satellites or electric car production.”, – emphasized the president.

It will be recalled that for more than two decades, Musk’s companies received about $38 billion in the form of government contracts, subsidies, loans and tax breaks. In particular, SpaceX has signed agreements with the US government worth more than $1 billion every year since 2016, and from 2021 to 2024, these contracts reached $2-4 billion each year. Tesla received about $1 billion a year from 2020. These subsidies greatly contributed to the dynamic development of Musk’s companies.
