Two suspects detained in Zaporizhzhia for planning terrorist attack in Kyiv and setting fire to AFU vehicles

In Zaporizhzhia, law enforcement officers detained two local residents who, according to the investigation, were carrying out orders from Russian special services. They were setting fire to Ukrainian military vehicles and planning a terrorist attack in Kyiv. This was reported by the press services of the Main Department of the National Police, the regional prosecutor’s office and the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, Russia’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) recruited a 20-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia via the Telegram messenger. Together with her 26-year-old partner, she searched for and set fire to Ukrainian Armed Forces vehicles. The perpetrators recorded the location of the vehicles and planned attacks. One of their targets was an infantry fighting vehicle at a sensitive facility in the city.
In addition, the suspect recruited a minor to set fire to a military vehicle, which he and his friends set on fire and filmed. In carrying out the task, the group acted on the instructions of Russian handlers.
The SBU also found that the suspects were preparing a terrorist attack in Kyiv. Their task was to arrange an explosion in a crowded place to provoke maximum civilian casualties. To do this, the girl received instructions on how to use a detonator, which she was to retrieve from a secret cache, the location of which was to be disclosed before the attack.
Both suspects were detained and custody without bail was chosen as a measure of restraint. They are suspected of high treason and committing a crime by a group of persons. If proven guilty, they face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
