Ukraine and Norway signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Partnership in the Field of Healthcare

An official meeting between the Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Lyashko, and the Minister of Health of the Kingdom of Norway, Jan Christian Vestre, took place in Kyiv. During the visit, the parties signed the Memorandum on Partnership in the Health Care Sector, which establishes cooperation within the framework of the Agreement on Security Cooperation and Long-Term Support between Ukraine and Norway. “The agreement signed today is a logical continuation of the security agreement signed last year by the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Norway, and an important step towards strengthening our medical system. During a full-scale war, we must ensure not only stability, but also development – so that Ukrainians receive quality care in any conditions.
The partnership with Norway is about professional cooperation, shared values, and the priority of protecting people’s lives and health. We are grateful for solidarity and concrete actions that help make Ukrainian medicine stronger, more modern and more resistant to challenges”, — noted Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko.
The document envisages joint work in the areas of public health development, strengthening of medical systems, training of specialists, exchange of knowledge and experience in the fields of mental health, rehabilitation, fight against antimicrobial resistance.
The parties also agreed on cooperation in the field of digitalization, cyber security, organization of medical evacuation, response to emergency situations, in particular, related to chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear threats. The agreement provides for the participation of specialists from both countries in conferences, professional exchanges and joint events.
Norwegian Minister of Health and Care Jan Christian Vestre emphasized his country’s readiness to support the Ukrainian health care system and promote its development in accordance with European standards. The meeting was attended by representatives of the World Health Organization and the World Bank.
During the second day of the visit, the delegation from Norway visited several medical institutions in Kyiv. At the National Children’s Specialized Hospital “Okhmatdyt”, Minister Vestre expressed deep respect for Ukrainian doctors who, despite the consequences of rocket fire, continue to provide assistance to patients. He also noted the stability of the Ukrainian health care system and progress in the restoration of medical institutions.
