Ukraine completes construction of first towed artillery system ‘Bogdana-B’ (video)

To the self-propelled “Bohdan” howitzers, Ukraine probably added the first “Bohdan-B” towed artillery system, which was reported in 2023. This is stated in material Defense Express, based on video analysis published by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The video shows the newest samples of Ukrainian weapons, which have already shown their effectiveness on the battlefield. Although the video does not directly mention the “Bohdana-B”, experts drew attention to a fragment showing a trailer-mounted howitzer. They identified it as a 155-mm gun from a 2S22 Bogdan self-propelled artillery mount mounted on a carriage, probably from a Soviet Hyacinth-B howitzer.

Defense Express reminds that the work on “Bohdana-B” first became known in 2023. At the time, it was reported that Ukraine is able to produce more barrels for the Bogdan self-propelled guns than chassis, so the remaining resources can be used to create towed howitzers.

The technical characteristics of “Bohdan-B”, in particular the mass, rate of fire and the number of servicemen, remain unknown.

Expansion of the production of self-propelled guns in Ukraine

Western observers previously noted that Ukraine established its own production of NATO-caliber artillery systems, which reduced its dependence on European and US aid. The country’s successes in the production of artillery systems were also highly appreciated.

The rate of production of “Bohdan” ACS has reached 20 units per month, which allows Ukraine to manufacture more than 200 such systems per year. In addition, it became known that Denmark financed the purchase of 18 self-propelled guns “Bohdan” for the Ukrainian army.
