Ukraine entered the top 5 suppliers of raspberries to the USA

Ukraine made a significant jump in the global trade of frozen raspberries, entering the top five exporters of this berry to the USA over the past 12 months.

About this informs EastFruit, an analytical center specializing in agricultural market research.

As noted, Poland, which is actively protecting its market from Ukrainian raspberries, continues to lose ground in this ranking and has already fallen to the 8th place.

From April 2023 to March 2024, inclusive, Ukraine exported 265 tons of frozen raspberries to the US market. Despite the fact that it was a relatively small volume, at the end of 2023 there was a radical change from individual trial deliveries to systematic export in batches of 2-3 sea containers per month. What’s more, this was enough to overtake such systematic exporters as Poland, Belgium, France, China and Morocco in terms of export volume in the US market.

Even 10 years ago, Ukraine practically did not export frozen raspberries at all, the world market was completely dominated by the USA and Serbia. Only in 2018-19, i.e. about 5 years ago, Ukraine began to exert some influence on the global raspberry market, and already today it has real chances to claim world leadership in this business“, says Andriy Yarmak, economist of the investment department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

At the same time, he notes that Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine may have a negative impact on the pace of development of this sector, however, in 2024, Ukraine remains one of the few countries in Europe where the area under raspberries has not decreased, and processing capacity has even increased. At the same time, the price forecasts for raspberry producers of Ukraine for the new season are quite optimistic, and the European market is experiencing a sensational demand for this berry.
