The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted the updated procedure for the appointment and payment of one-time cash benefits in case of death or disability of certain categories of persons in accordance with the law “On the status of war veterans, guarantees of their social protection”. Under the new rules, applicants will be able to apply for one-time benefits to the Department of Veterans Affairs. It will be possible to do this not only in person through the center for the provision of administrative services (CSC), but also online, with the help of an electronic cabinet on the Diya Portal or through the Unified State Register of War Veterans, when the appropriate technical capability will be implemented.
The decision on the provision and payment of one-time assistance will be made by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, which will transfer the funds to the recipients’ bank accounts. The resolution defines the ministry’s authority to coordinate the process of awarding payments and interaction with central and local authorities, in particular with the Central Administrative Court.
According to People’s Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko, this resolution is the result of the implementation of the law that came into force on April 4. From now on, the payment of assistance in the amount of 15 million hryvnias in the event of the death of military personnel is provided for at the legislative level. Earlier, the government decided to pay this amount to the families of the fallen defenders after the start of the full-scale war.
We will remind that in March 2024, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law aimed at ensuring social protection of military personnel and police officers, which enshrines the right to receive one-time monetary assistance in the event of the death or disability of defenders.
