Ukraine increased gas imports by 12 times in a month

In February, Ukraine imported 511.8 million cubic meters of natural gas, which was the highest monthly figure in the last year and a half – since September 2023. Compared to January, supply volumes increased 12 times, informs ExPro.
The main suppliers of gas were Slovakia, where 234.4 million cubic meters came from, which is 45.8% of total imports, Hungary – 218 million cubic meters (42.6%) and Poland – 59.5 million cubic meters (11.6%).
Most of the gas, 401 million cubic meters, was pumped into the “customs warehouse” of Ukrainian underground storages, of which 188.1 million cubic meters – through the short-haul service. Another 110.8 million cubic meters went directly to the gas transportation system of Ukraine.
The significant increase in imports is primarily due to a reduction in domestic production due to Russian attacks at the beginning of the month. In addition, the cold weather increased the demand for gas. Import volumes are expected to decline in March due to gradual warming, which will reduce consumption levels, as well as the recovery of damaged mining facilities.
