Zelenskyy signed a law prohibiting organ transplantation of dead soldiers

February 6, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed the law that prohibits the removal of organs for transplantation from dead soldiers and victims of armed aggression against Ukraine.

The document, in particular, provides for the prohibition of removing organs from those who died due to the actions of law enforcement or security forces, military personnel who performed official duties under martial law, as well as persons who became victims of armed aggression.

The law also provides for the creation of the National Transplantation Committee. It will work as an advisory body of the Ministry of Health.

Among other changes is the improvement of the automatic search for a donor-recipient pair through the Unified State Information System for Transplantation of Organs and Tissues. In addition, the document envisages the possibility of transplantation according to the “domino” principle, when organs from several donors can be used to treat several patients.
