“Ukraine lacks people”: Bloomberg

The labor shortage in Ukraine, caused by the war and mobilization, is turning into a serious challenge for enterprises and managers, who spend more and more efforts to find workers.

About this informs Bloomberg.

According to experts, the labor force in Ukraine has decreased by 27% compared to the pre-war level. Millions of people left the country, joined the ranks of the Armed Forces or died in battle. The law on mobilization, designed to replenish the ranks of the military, deepens the problem of labor shortages in enterprises, which are the basis of the economy in conditions of war.

Kyiv has to fill the gap left by millions of people”, Bloomberg notes, adding that such a situation “risks further weakening” Ukraine.

In addition to refugees, the shortage is compounded by men moving into the shadow economy to avoid conscription. Many quit their jobs and look for a new one closer to home, so as not to catch the eye of the military commissars.

According to analysts, the largest companies in Ukraine experience a shortage of qualified personnel. The ranking of the largest employers by region is led by Kyiv with “Ukrzaliznytsia”.
