‘The basis for the economy”: The Ministry of Education has identified the most popular professions among entrants to vocational schools

The admission campaign to vocational education and training institutions ended in October, and the most popular professions among applicants were cook, car mechanic, electric and gas welder, confectioner, driver and tractor driver. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science.

It is reported that the professions of cook, driver and locksmith are also among the top ten most popular in the Ukrainian labour market in terms of the number of vacancies posted on job search sites.

This year, more than 94,800 students have enrolled in vocational training, bringing the total number of students in vocational schools to 219,438.

A significant indicator is the fulfilment of the regional order, which reached 92%, up 4% from last year’s level (88%). According to the Ministry of Education and Science, this indicates the successful adaptation of institutions to the needs of local businesses.

Thus, the trends in vocational education enrolment in 2024 show that students are increasingly choosing professions that are in demand in the modern market and will be relevant in the future.

Working professions are the backbone of Ukraine’s economy, especially during the reconstruction period. Our task is to convey to young people how important their role in this process is. We need to explain that vocational education is about making a conscious choice, because the motivation to choose these specialities should come not only from the demand of the labour market, but also from the students‘ understanding that they can fully realise themselves and build a successful career by choosing a vocational school,’ said Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi.
