Ukraine plans to fine drivers for summer tires in winter

In Ukraine, it is proposed to introduce fines for drivers who do not change summer tires to winter tires in the cold season. This was announced by the first deputy head of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksiy Biloshitskyi. Currently, the legislation does not provide for responsibility for the use of summer tires in winter, but the corresponding draft law is already in place registered.
“Even before the full-scale war, work began on normalizing the issue of replacing rubber by season, and now such a bill has been registered. The legislative debate is ongoing and there are many nuances. There are also many opponents and conservatives.”, – he emphasized.
According to Biloshitskyi, the question of changing tires in the winter period should not be a subject of discussion, because it is a proven fact that winter tires provide a shorter braking distance, improve car handling and significantly reduce the risk of accidents.
The proposed fines are 340 hryvnias for cars and 8,500 hryvnias for trucks and buses. However, the final decision on the implementation of these measures has not yet been taken.
