Ukraine received $235 million from Japan to support education and business

The state budget of Ukraine received $235 million in preferential financing from the Japanese government within the framework of new World Bank projects. About this reported Ministry of Finance.
As part of the project “Sustainable, inclusive and ecologically balanced entrepreneurship” (RISE), Ukraine received a loan in the amount of $130 million. This project is aimed at removing key obstacles that hinder the development, sustainability and growth of the private sector.
Another $105 million was allocated within the framework of the project “Increasing the accessibility and sustainability of education in the conditions of the crisis in Ukraine” (LEARN). Its main goal is to improve the conditions of the educational process during martial law, ensure security and create a comfortable environment for students and teachers. Part of the funds will go towards the purchase of shelter materials and school buses.
Minister of Finance Serhiy Marchenko noted that since February 2022, the total budget support from Japan through the mechanisms of the World Bank has already exceeded $6 billion. Funding is implemented using the Program-for-results (PforR) tool, where the allocation of funds depends on the achievement of Ukraine’s defined criteria.
