Ukraine signed the first international agreement in the field of AI

Ukraine joined the Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law. This is the first international agreement dedicated to issues of AI regulation, informs press service of the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
The document was signed in Strasbourg. On behalf of Ukraine, the Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation, Oleksandr Bornyakov, signed, and on behalf of the Council of Europe, the Deputy Secretary General, Björn Berge.
The convention establishes key principles that should guide states when developing legislation and implementing artificial intelligence technologies in the public sector. It is about respect for human dignity and autonomy, transparency, oversight, non-discrimination, protection of privacy, reliability of systems and safety of innovation.
The Ministry of Digitization emphasized that the signing of the document is an important step for the development of artificial intelligence in Ukraine as a digital state:
“Signing the convention is an important step for the development of AI in a digital state. Ukraine is not just joining the technological future – we are shaping it according to world standards together with the leaders of the field.”
At the moment, 15 states have already joined the convention, including the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Japan, Israel, EU countries and other members of the Council of Europe.
