The Government plans to create a Register of Accounts and Bank Safes of Ukrainians

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine plans to create a Register of accounts and individual bank safes of individuals. It will be conducted by the State Tax Service, and only “competent authorities” will have access to the data. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Finance.

Such a decision is provided for by the package of draft laws approved by the government, which was prepared by the Ministry of Finance. This package is aimed at preparing for the accession of Ukraine to the SEPA European banking payment system.

According to the information from the presentation of the Ministry of Finance, the following data will be entered into the register:

  • information about bank accounts, securities accounts, electronic wallets, etc.;
  • information about account holders;
  • data on institutions with which accounts are opened.

At the same time, there is no provision for the transfer of information on the movement of funds, account balances or the contents of bank safes. Publication of data in public access is also not provided for.

“Access will be provided to specialized and exclusively competent bodies”, – says the presentation.

The Ministry of Finance emphasizes that these changes are necessary for submitting an official application for Ukraine to join SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area):

“Ukraine joining SEPA will allow citizens and businesses to make transfers in euros between 36 European participating countries extremely quickly, without additional fees and according to clearly established rules.”
