Ukraine will receive 40 million euros from the European Union for the restoration of energy infrastructure

The European Commission has allocated an additional 40 million euros to Ukraine to restore energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced this on September 6 in her publications in the social network Kh.

“Russia is relentlessly attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The temperature will soon drop, so we are increasing our humanitarian aid to Ukrainians who need it. With a new package of 40 million euros for repairs, electricity, heating and housing”, – emphasized the President of the EC.

Currently, Ukraine’s energy system is operating under power shortage conditions after nine waves of massive shelling. Emergency and planned repair works are ongoing at energy facilities.

In particular, on August 26, Russia carried out another large-scale attack, using 109 drones and 127 missiles, including naval “calibers” and missiles fired from the Tu-95MS. The shelling caused significant destruction, led to the death of at least 7 people and wounded 47 people. As a result of the strikes, water supply was cut off in several regions, and “Ukrenergo” applied emergency power cuts.

Yuriy Boyko, a member of the supervisory board of NEC “Ukrenergo”, said that after this attack, the energy industry will revise the plans for preparing for winter. At the moment, there are no specific forecasts for outages in the coming months. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal also announced that cluster munitions were used for the first time during the attack to hit distribution substations.
