The former head of the colony received a 400% bonus after discovering the facts of torture: Lubinets

On June 6, the Ministry of Justice initiated an official investigation into the facts of torture and extortion of property from convicts in the colony.

The former head of Bozhkiv correctional colony No. 16 in Poltava region received a bonus of 400% and a pension after discovering systematic violations, torture and beating of convicts. About this reported ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, calling on the SBI to investigate the case.

Lubinets recalled that at the end of May, he drew the attention of the Ministry of Justice to the publicized facts of torture of convicts in Bozhkiv correctional colony No. 16, which were discovered in 2022-2023.

On June 6, the ministry initiated an official investigation into the facts of torture and extortion of property from convicts in the colony.

“According to the results of the study, it was established that in July 2023, during the official investigation, without waiting for the final conclusions, it was agreed to dismiss the head of the institution at his own request with the payment of a bonus of 400% of the official salary “for special achievements in work” and other cash payments in the total amount of almost UAH 400,000″, – said Lubinets.

In addition, according to the ombudsman, in December 2023, the former director of the institution received a decision to establish the maximum level of his pension.

“Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation must determine why, after the established systematic violations and facts of torture and beating of convicts, the leadership of the State Security Service of Ukraine made a decision to baselessly and illegally charge 400% of the bonus to the head”, – urged Lubinets.

At the end of May, the SBI and the Prosecutor General’s Office announced the notification of suspicion to four officials of the State Institution “Bozhkiv Correctional Colony (No. 16)” in the Poltava region. They are suspected of torturing prisoners.
