Ukrainian military facilities have disappeared from Google Maps: statement by the Centre for Countering Disinformation

The US-based Google has made changes to its maps, and now Ukrainian military facilities and systems are no longer displayed. Andriy Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defence Council’s Disinformation Countermeasures Centre, reported this on Telegram.
‘Google has fixed the situation with the maps. Military facilities and systems are no longer displayed. Everything will be ok in the future,’ the official said in a post.
Earlier, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Centre for Countering Disinformation, noted that ‘Google publishes updated images showing the location of Ukrainian military systems’. He said that after a public outcry, Google representatives contacted the Ukrainian side to resolve the issue of images of defence facilities.
In September 2024, Kovalenko said that the Centre had held talks with Google and stressed that the results would lead to significant changes and acceleration of countermeasures that ‘many propagandists will not like’.
