The Verkhovna Rada is proposed to expand the list of heads of inquiry bodies: details

People’s Deputy Maksym Pavlyuk registered draft law No. 11365, which offers to amend the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The purpose of the draft law is to improve the procedure for investigation and trial of criminal misdemeanors.
The author of the draft law notes that the current legislation, which regulates the investigation of criminal offenses, has a number of shortcomings revealed during practical application. In particular, the procedural powers of the deputy head of the inquiry unit are not defined, the possibility of conducting an inquiry by a group of inquirers or the head of the inquiry body is not provided for, as well as the terms of the pre-trial investigation are insufficiently defined.
The main proposals of the draft law:
- Expand the list of heads of investigation bodies by including deputy heads of investigation units of various law enforcement agencies.
- Allow a pre-trial investigation by a group of investigators.
- To authorize the head of the inquiry body to carry out inquiries, using the powers of the inquirer.
- Increase the period of inquiry from the date of notification of suspicion to one month with the possibility of extension to two months.
- Specify the grounds for the detention of a person suspected of committing a criminal offense.
- To improve the procedure for completion of inquiry and court proceedings regarding criminal misdemeanors.
The draft law aims to eliminate identified shortcomings and gaps in the current legislation, which will contribute to more effective investigation of criminal offenses and ensuring a fair trial.
