Ukrainians warned of possible 20% increase in bread prices by the end of the year

The All-Ukrainian Association of Bakers does not rule out that by the end of 2025, the price of bread in Ukraine may increase by 20%. About this reported head of the association Oleksandr Taranenko.
“I won’t be surprised if it happens. Everything is coming to that,” Oleksandr Taranenko said.
Among the reasons for the increase in the price of bread, he named the increase in the cost of all components: flour, yeast, fats, and sugar. Added to this are the costs of electricity, logistics, as well as the state’s requirement for enterprises that have the right to book employees to raise salaries to 20,000 hryvnias.
Commenting on the possibility of a 20% increase in bread prices, Taranenko said that currently the selling price of a kilogram of bread from a bakery is slightly more than UAH 40. At the same time, the margin of supermarkets on bread under various marketing schemes sometimes reaches 30%, although by law it should not exceed 10%. He admitted that the increase in bread prices will be felt by low-income Ukrainians, but in general, the impact on the budget of an average family will be insignificant.
“We will not take domestic statistics – they do not correspond to reality due to the presence of a “shadow” market and other nuances. Objectively, now a Ukrainian consumes 150-200 grams of bread every day, that is, about 5 kilograms per month. So, every month a citizen of Ukraine spends 200-210 UAH on bread. If the price increases by 20% in a year, then a person will spend 40 UAH more on bread every month. Yes, for our pensioners and other low-income groups, UAH 40 is money. However, it would be an exaggeration to say that UAH 40 per month will undermine the budget of a Ukrainian family.” Taranenko stressed.
