The national postal operator “Ukrposhta” announced its intention to purchase 1,745 electric tricycles for postal employees, which will include a full range of services (Full service). This initiative is part of a large-scale logistics infrastructure development project planned for 2024.
As informs agency “Interfax-Ukraine” with reference to data from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), “Ukrposhta” will use part of the funds received through credit and grant support administered by the EBRD to finance this contract.
Opening of proposals from suppliers is scheduled for November 18, 2024. Ihor Smilyanskyi, the general director of Ukrposhta, noted that electric tricycles are a necessary modernization, because with the growth of e-commerce and the increase in the volume of delivery of parcels and medicines, traditional bicycles are becoming less efficient. Postmen now deal with a smaller volume of paper correspondence and newspapers, but a much larger number of parcels.
It is important that electric tricycles were developed in cooperation with a Ukrainian manufacturer representing a veteran business. The prototype vehicle is already ready and undergoing testing. According to Smilyanskyi, he is personally testing the new model to make sure of its efficiency and convenience for postmen.
