Vance and his family went to India to discuss trade issues

On April 21, US Vice President JD Vance began a four-day visit to India, arriving in Delhi with his wife Usha Vance and children. This is Vance’s first trip to India, where he is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a bilateral trade deal. About this informs DW.

At Delhi International Airport, Vance was greeted with a guard of honor and performances by traditional dance groups. The visit began with a visit to the Akshardham temple in the capital. The US Vice President is also expected to visit the Taj Mahal and Amer Fort.

The trip is seen as extremely important by the administration of President Donald Trump, especially amid the escalating trade conflict between the US and China, India’s neighbor. India’s Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that the visit will be a platform for exchanging views on regional and global issues of common interest.

“We are confident that the visit will give further impetus to our bilateral ties,” – said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India.

Vance’s talks with Modi are expected to focus on building on the agreements reached during the Indian prime minister’s visit to the US in February. Among the key topics are ensuring “fairness” in trade relations and strengthening defense cooperation.

For the children of the vice president of the United States, this trip will also be an opportunity to get to know their ancestral roots more deeply. JD Vance’s wife, Usha Bala Chilukuri, is the daughter of Indian expatriates Krishna and Lakshmi Chilukuri, who moved to California in the 1980s. Her family belongs to the Telugu people and the highest varna of Indian society – Brahmins. Some of Usha’s relatives still live in India, and the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras has established a student honor in honor of her grandfather.
